WELCOME
Bodkin points, similar to the one in the photo above, began to be used in the 13th or 14th century, when knighthood was in fashion. They were arrowheads used to effectively pierce the armor of those warriors and their horses who served the king and were privileged to be protected by steel plate in combat. While they often fought against each other, they more often fought with those not so fortunately shielded. Put to use before firearms, the bodkin points permitted longbow arrows and crossbow quarrels to penetrate armor and were great equalizers.
In this 21st century, I call my website "Bodkin Points" because "Bodkin" is my surname and because I intend to use this website to get my penned points through the armor of fear that blocks the questioning of political and social agendas. There is some risk for any archer who dares to bend his literary bow and loose an arrow in this direction. For this reason, I wish to make it very clear that my views are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of those near to me. Perhaps these Bodkin Points will open shielded subjects for discussion and make me feel that I have made a worthwhile difference as compensation.
While it is my intention to publish only my carefully considered views and opinions on this site, I welcome emails regarding information and thoughts from others that can be of value in my consideration of the subject. If I cannot reasonably defend my views and information when they are questioned, I am always willing to reconsider.
New essays may be added and while a few may be replaced or revised, most essays will be retained as originally written, just as they would be if they were committed to paper.
Learn if you will but teach me if you can. I want the truth of any matter and tend to resist influences based on popular appeal or wishful thinking, remembering that truth is the food of wisdom. And while I enjoy a few fantasies, I have a higher regard for the realities of life and am as careful as I can be not to mix them.
